Architect Achim Aisslinger studied in Munich, London and Hamburg, and notably studied under the British architect and painter Will Alsop. He has worked as a freelance architect since 1994, and previously worked with Otto Steidle and the practice Medium Architekten.
At his architecture studio Aisslinger + Assoziierte, based in Hamburg, Achim Aisslinger and his team work on a wide spectrum of projects, ranging from small- to medium-scale extensions and conversions to new builds and prefabricated buildings in steel, solid structure or wood. The firm has won two regional awards for its wood constructions.
In addition to residential and commercial buildings, Achim Aisslinger also realises projects relating to art in public spaces and exhibitions. His clients thus benefit from a holistic approach that meets ever-changing demands, whether aesthetic, spatial, material or in terms of cost transparency, with maximum commitment and creativity.
This method is at the root of numerous successful projects, as well as various competition prizes and workshops, for example on the Lofoten Islands with the German-British sociologist Norbert Elias and the Norwegian philosopher Arne Naess, or in Bangalore, India on the topic of ‘Tiny Houses’ in collaboration with the Goethe Institute. Notable exhibition projects shown at the Hamburg Summer of Architecture include ‘metromorph‘ (1994), ‘bautafel’ (1997), ‘aktuelle australische architektur’ (2000) and ‘teaching tubes’ (2009).
Since 2005, the architecture firm Aisslinger + Assoziierte, in collaboration with studio aisslinger in Berlin, has been developing a series of modular houses, ‘LoftCube’, in various international locations. The architect was also a participant in the exhibition ‘Sehnsucht’ (‘Nostalgia’) in the German Pavilion at the 12th Biennale di Architettura di Venezia. Achim Aisslinger has been on the managing board of the Hamburger Kunstverein (Hamburg Art Society) for three years and has been a member of the art committee of the city of Hamburg since 1998. He has also been involved with Hamburg’s Architecture and School program for fifteen years.
